The municipality of Maipú, one of the largest communities in Santiago de Chile with over 500,000 inhabitants, is located south west of Santiago and belongs to the province of Santiago in the Metropolitan region. Unlike other municipalities, Maipú has its own service of water supply and sewerage known as SMAPA and it serves Maipú, Cerrillos and part of Central Station. Maipú has a Citizen Security Service that reinforces the monitoring work of the police. This security service needs an efficient communication system in order to deliver a high level of service to the community.

Rented, unreliable existing equipment

Maipú's radio communication system was on hire, and was neither reliable nor efficient. The city could do nothing about it, however, as they did not own the system. Therefore, they wanted to acquire their own communication system - one that would give them the advanced features common in digital equipment and provide them with safe, clear, fast and efficient communication throughout the area, with portable equipment.

Digital mobile revolution

The solution was based on a RD98X repeater station expanding the communication coverage. Using DMR Radio technology, two time slots are available for Public Safety and Homeland Security teams. Each department has one separate voice channel and GPS, along with a base station and a dispatch console, Hytracks, allowing monitoring and tracking units.

The Hytera digital solutions free Maipú from the lease of the radio system, and they have been able to build their own communication system, which saves money and requires minimal maintenance. 

The RD98X repeater ensures that all terminal users with PD78X or MD78X who patrol the community can keep in touch and properly communicate. The communications centre with the Hytracks console can access the GPS information of terminal holders through the IP network and therefore deliver an efficient, high level of service to the community.
